Alabama is a STEM rich state.

STEM jobs in Alabama will increase by 9 percent between 2017
and 2027. Therefore, Alabama started a CS4AL initiative in 2018 and established a roadmap to STEM success.
Governor Ivey signed a bill into law that established the Alabama school of Cyber Technology and Engineering (ASCTE) in 2018. This facility, based in Huntsville, will serve as destination hub for advancements in computer science education going into the future.

State Of Alabama Requirements

All high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools in Alabama must offer computer science courses by 2020 – 2021 school year.

In high school, various computer science courses may count towards a math or science credit forgraduation in Alabama. Which course and to what extent are left to the districts to decide.

Did you know?

A teacher with existing licensure in Alabama may obtain the computer science endorsement by passing the Praxis CS exam.
