In 2019, Kansas adopted the CSTA K-12 Computer Science Standards to increase the availability of computer science education for all of its students.
“To be well-educated citizens in a computing-intensive world and to be prepared for careers in the 21st century, our students must have a clear understanding of the principles and practices of computer science. The Kansas P-12 Computer Science Model Standards delineate a core set of learning objectives designed to provide the foundation for a complete computer science curriculum and its implementation at the P–12 level.”

Kansas requires all secondary schools to offer at least one computer science course beginning in the 2023 – 2024 school year.
Locally approved computer science courses may count towards graduation requirements but it is ultimately a district decision.
