Massachusetts

At Rex, we have matched Massachusetts’s vision with our own.

At Rex Academy, we are dedicated to building quality computer science education for all ages. Our core belief is that computer science should be available to all learners as it is a gateway to many opportunities.

Learning to code is comparable to learning reading, writing, and math for this generation. Rex makes this process easy and enjoyable for all!

Alabama is a STEM rich state.

In 2015, A review panel in Massachusetts reviewed existing computer science curriculum and technology literacy skills and drafted a new Digital Literacy and Computer Science Framework for the state of Massachusetts, which were adopted in 2016.

“In the last decade, changes in technology, communication, and the information life cycle have
contributed to significant changes in our world. Increasingly, people are becoming technology creators as well as technology users. Meaningful participation in modern society requires fluency in the uses of, impact of, and ability to manipulate technology for living, learning, and working. Given this context, knowledge and skills included in the Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) standards are essential for all students. Student of all backgrounds should be prepared for personal and civic efficacy in the twenty-first century and should have the opportunity to consider innovative and creative technology-based careers of the future.”

State Of Massachusetts Requirements

Massachusetts does not yet require high schools to offer computer science. However, various computer science classes may count towards a math or science course if the course aligns with state standards. Some courses may also count as a foreign language credit if students are enrolled in specific programs.

The state allows teachers with existing licensure to acquire computer science accreditation through the Praxis or Pearson CS exams.
