Michigan’s vision for computer science education is that all of their students will learn and develop the following fundamental skill in computer science.

State Of Michigan Requirements

Michigan does not yet require secondary schools to offer computer science programs.

In Michigan, computer science courses may count as a graduation credit towards certain math courses and possibly other graduation requirements.

Did you know?

Michigan does not yet have a clear pathway for certification for computer science teachers. Their programs continue to be underserved by a lack of teachers.

Michigan has broken up their standards into the following grade bands:

Level 1A: Lower Elementary (K – 2)
Level 1B: Upper Elementary (3 – 5)
Level 2: Middle School (6 – 8)
Level 3A: High School (9 – 10)
Level 3B: High School (11 – 12)
