In 2020, New Jersey adopted the CSTA K-12 Computer Science Standards. The standards were written with the following goals:
Establish a Data-Driven Decision-Making Approach: Establish metrics for each of the goals to evaluate progress and remaining gaps; ensure the data collected can serve as a basis for establishing the funding in each of the next two fiscal cycles.

New Jersey requires all of its high schools to offer a computer science course. A computer science course may count as a math credit for graduation in New Jersey.
In New Jersey, teachers can obtain a computer science endorsement if they have an existing licensure within their teaching domain.
