At Rex Academy, we are dedicated to building quality computer science education for all ages. Our core belief is that computer science should be available to all learners as it is a gateway to many opportunities.

Learning to code is comparable to learning reading, writing, and math for this generation. Rex makes this process easy and enjoyable for all!

Alabama is a STEM rich state.

In 2018, Rhode Island adopted computer science standards with core concepts that target specific disciplinary areas of importance in computer science.

“Our students, including those historically underrepresented, understand the value, influence, and relevance of computer science education. We believe that increased use and mastery of computational thinking through the grade levels builds human capacity, and allows students to become informed users, as well as active creators, of technology. Students shall thoughtfully and ethically approach personal and societal challenges and participate in finding solutions to local, regional, and global issues.

Our educators collaborate within communities of professional practice as computer science becomes the multi-disciplinary bridge across school districts. We believe that an engaged citizenry emerges from a strong focus on essential life and career skills, problem-solving abilities, and lifelong commitment to learning, which positions Rhode Island as a leader in technology and a premier innovative center in the United States.”

State Of Rhode Island Requirements

Rhode Island currently requires all high schools to offer at one class in computer science. In Rhode Island, approved computer science courses may count towards math or science credits for graduation.

Rhode Island teachers with existing licensure may obtain a computer science endorsement by completing some coursework from approved providers.

Did you know?

Currently, there is not a clear path to get teachers certified in computer science education.

Rhode Island’s standards are in line with mainstream computer science standards that are endorsed by the CSTA. Each core concept and sub-concept is taught at each grade band.
