West Virginia

At Rex, we have matched West Virginia’s vision with our own.

At Rex Academy, we are dedicated to building quality computer science education for all ages. Our core belief is that computer science should be available to all learners as it is a gateway to many opportunities.

Learning to code is comparable to learning reading, writing, and math for this generation. Rex makes this process easy and enjoyable for all!

  • Digital Citizen – Students recognize the rights and responsibilities of living and working in an interconnected world and behave in a safe, legal, and ethical manner.
  • Knowledge Constructor – Students use a variety of tools to gain learning experiences for themselves and others.
  • Innovative Designer – Students are able to use a variety of technological tools to create artifacts and solve problems.
  • Computational Thinker – Students are able to develop and employ effective strategies that solve complex problems.
  • Creative Communicator – Students are able to communicate and create an atmosphere where they can band together and use various platforms to achieve their goals.

State Of West Virginia Requirements

West Virginia adopted K – 12 computer science standards in 2019.

Currently, all high schools in West Virginia must offer at least one computer science course.

Did you know?

In West Virginia, some computer science endorsements have been created, but there is no certification program in place to teach computer science courses. In most situations, the Praxis exam is used.

West Virginia somewhat aligns to CSTA and ISTE standards and therefore has the following Core Computer Science Concepts embedded within their standards:

  1. Computer Systems and Computational Thinking
  2. Networks and Cyber Infrastructure
  3. Data and Information
  4. Programming and Algorithms
  5. Impacts of Computing
